How to Write a Classified Ad That Sells Fast
Published October 2026Two ads for the same item can get very different results. The difference is usually the photos, the title and how clear the ad is. Here is what works.
Start with great photos
Use natural daylight and a clean, plain background. Take the main photo straight on, then add close-ups, any labels or serial numbers, and honest shots of scratches or wear. Ads with several clear photos get far more replies than ads with one blurry picture.
Write a title people would search for
Put the item, brand and model first. "Samsung 55-inch 4K TV, 2022" beats "TV for sale". If it is a rental or a job, include the type and the area.
Price it fairly
Search for similar items near you and price a little under the going rate if you want a quick sale. If you are open to offers, say so. Ads with a clear price get more messages than "call for price".
Describe it honestly
Cover the condition, age, size, what is included and why you are selling. Mention flaws up front. It saves time and builds trust, and buyers are less likely to haggle or cancel.
Say where and when
Give the general area, not your address, and your usual availability. Buyers like knowing they can pick up this weekend.
Reply quickly and keep it friendly
Most buyers message several sellers at once. A fast, polite answer often wins the sale. Update or remove the ad once the item is sold so nobody wastes their time.
A quick checklist

- Specific title with brand and model
- Fair price and a note on offers
- Honest condition, flaws included
