How to Negotiate a Better Price on Local Deals
Published October 2026Haggling is normal on classifieds. Done politely, it leaves both sides happy.
Buyers
- Research first. Know what similar items sell for.
- Be polite and specific. "Would you take 80 if I can collect today?" works better than a lowball.
- Point to real reasons. Wear, missing parts or the need to replace something are fair grounds for a lower offer.
- Offer convenience. Quick pickup and cash in hand are worth something to a seller.
- Be ready to walk away. It keeps you from overpaying.
Sellers
- Leave a little room. Price slightly above your minimum.
- Know your lowest price before you start talking.
- Explain your price. Mention condition, age and what is included.
- Stay friendly. A polite no keeps the buyer around if their offer changes.
- Ignore no-shows and pressure. You can wait for a serious buyer.
Bundles
Buying several things from one seller is the easiest way to get a discount. Ask for a single price for the lot.
